The Crediton 3rd’s v Okehampton Legends game was the choice game for Crediton’s main pitch and so the scene was set. Perfect playing conditions, playing on the main pitch, in front of a large travelling set of supporters and topped off with the attendance of ORFC’s Mr Twitter.
The start to game was fairly frantic with both sides running hard however it was Crediton who initially applied the most pressure. The Legends, through some good tackling managed to cope well with the pressure. The Legends then eased the pressure with a good breakaway through Dave Bickle, Ed Jones and James Harrison. The result was a Legends lineout 5m out however when the resulting maul didn’t go anywhere the ball found its way out to the backs where a good run and cut back inside from Richie Camies led to Ed Jones sneaking over. Lee Carvey just missed the resulting conversion attempt. 0-5.
The Legends soon had a second after a Crediton clearing kick found Lee Carey, who after managing to gather up some momentum, made good headway back into the Crediton half. With some good off loads the ball travelled ever nearer to the try line through Steve Penna, Ed Jones and Rich Camies. With the try line in sight Alfie poached the ball and flopped over for the second try of the game. Lee Carey made the kick 0-12.
Crediton then started to get back into the game and benefitted from some big runs by their “well-built” centre which saw Oke’s captain Richie sitting down a few times!!!! Both teams had attacks but good tackling from both sides saw the attacks come to nothing. The highlight of this period was a when the Legends hooker, Alfie, appeared to have a touch of Dartitis whilst trying to throw the ball in leading to a Creddy free kick.
Crediton then got back into the game after a period of pressure on the Legends line saw them dive over from the scrum. The conversion went wide 5-12. However the Legends soon extended their lead again after a brilliant break from Matt Johns took them up to the line where Ian Scrivenor dived over. Lee Carey again converted. 5-19.
With time nearly up in the first half some good interlinking play between Dave Bickle, Lee Carey and Matt johns saw the Legends score just before half time. The conversion was missed leaving the half time score 5-24.
The Legends were able to make one or two changes for the second half…..well 15 changes to be exact! Crediton started well again and kept attacked the Legends but the Legends were able to clear their lines through the goose stepping Lee Pengelly. Crediton again pilled on the pressure but were kept out with some big tackles from Darcy Heard, Giles Heard and Youngers.
With the Legends giving away several penalties Crediton pinned them back in their 22 and, despite knocking the ball on, finally scored again near the posts. This also led to Matt Chamberlin having to leave the pitch after he appeared to clash with the post and several players. A few players had thought that he was re-enacting how he fell asleep in Kentucky after the last game!!!!Matt was then replaced by the small figure of Kosta Vukov! 12-24
The referee continued to work through his long list of reasons to give a penalty and continually penalised the Legends for one thing or another! He put his arm out so many times that he hurt his shoulder and struggled to raise it! The referee finally had enough of all the penalties which then led to scrum half Darcy Heard being sin binned for the last offence.

Crediton then scored again to pull the game within touching distance after a quick bit of thinking by the number 6 caught the Legends out. The conversion was pulled wide 17-24.
The Legends then got back on top and charged towards the Crediton 22. After finally being awarded a penalty the Legends went for the quick tap and go but somehow Kosta was stopped just short of the line. Just moments later, with a quick turn of pace, Dan Carey raced through from 3 yards to score. Matt Johns converts 17-31.
In a period of end to end rugby Crediton then once again pull a score back after some good supporting play after a run down the wing. The conversion was again missed. 22-31. The Legends then scored again after Crediton were penalised at the scrum and Darcy Heard took a quick one and raced through from distance to score. The kick was missed 22-36.
With the seconds ticking away and the win in the bag the Legends then scored again after some great supporting play and Aaron Hart finishing the move off. Matt Johns kick is good 22-43. The full time whistle follows shortly after.
It was a great performance from all the Legends and it was great to see some new faces in Steve King, Giles Heard, Darcy Heard and Aaron Hart who all played very well. Big thanks to all the supporters who travelled and also ORFC’s Mr Twitter for the live updates.
