Following last weeks excellent win on the road at Exmouth , the Okes were again in Merit Table action with a rearranged game against Brixham following a postponement prior to Christmas.

With a strong looking line up the Okes playing up the Oaklands slope were soon into their stride and after some early mid pitch exchanges , back line pressure saw the visitors off side with Luke Simmons potting the resultant shot for an early 3 points .

The restart saw the ever green Richard Drake take the ball at full speed to put his side on the front foot . Well controlled phases kept the visitors defence on the move and with some excellent distribution from half backs Friend and Simmons, the overlap was well worked for the elder statesman of the team , John Short , to finish well in the corner .

With the hosts holding the advantage in nearly all facets of play , a line out deep in the Brixham 22 saw sustained pressure from the Oke pack with No.8 Callum Pillivant breaching the defensive line for the Okes second try.

With an excellent string of results behind them and an assured start to this game , the Okes 2oos are playing with confidence and flair and both traits were becoming increasingly apparent as the game progressed . Excellent phases saw John Short score again for his brace with Pillivant also adding to what is already a significant seasons tally .

Further tries in the first half came from scrum half Richard Friend , making a welcome return after parental duties , and the hard running Chris Courtier – impressive in his first outing at Oaklands on his recent return to the club.

The second half saw the visitors dig deep to stem the tide and played keep ball to good effect maintaining possession for many phases but although play was taken deep into the hosts 22 , the Okes excellent defence – a feature of their play throughout the season , held firm but when possession was regained , full advantage was taken with play taken the length of the pitch to score with further tries coming from Courtier , the flying Brandon Horn and Rory Honeychurch.

Brixham to their credit continued to contest at every opportunity and their efforts were rewarded with a converted try some 10 minutes from time .

There was enough time for the Okes to add to their tally with Rob Fishliegh crossing after outstripping the defence and the biggest cheer of the day was reserved for Brad Wilton – known to all as New Brad – scoring his first try for the club .

Simmons and Friend shared kicking duties and with a regular stream of conversions , the final score line read 74 – 7 to the Okes.

Another impressive performance from the 2oos that keeps them at the top of Devon Merit Table 1 and further evidence of the excellent strength in depth being built at ORFC.
