Okes suffered another defeat as their much changed side faded after the break against their north Devon visitors. An early Luke Simmons penalty was followed by a smart Leon Horn try. The Okes full back once again proving to be the catalyst for much of Okes attacking threat. At 8-0 ahead, and with the slope and the wind in their favour, Okes were repelling most early threats. Then the home side made a couple of unforced errors as the interval approached and Barum took full advantage.
The Reds scrum began to dominate the set piece and two converted tries ensured the visitors turned around 14 pts to 8 up at the interval. The second half saw a familiar tale for the Okes as frustrations and ill discipline, coupled with some dubious cards, saw them lose five players to the bin at various points in the second forty. At one point the Okes were down to just eleven men and were unsurprisingly up against it for long periods. The visitors benefited and kept possession to stretch away with five further second half tries. Oke threatened briefly but were unable to put any more points on the board as the match finished at 45 points to 8.
Okes remain second bottom as they await decisions on relegation numbers from the powers that be. The young Okes lineout fared much better throughout and no one can fault the efforts invested. Several big hits were the Okes second half highlight, but now the Maroon and Ambers have to regroup and go again over the course of their two remaining league matches, away at Brixham followed by Chew Valley at home for the season's finale. The large home support was once again greatly appreciated as it encouraged the young Okes charges throughout.
